After bursting into the music scene at 16 and selling millions of albums worldwide, the angel-voiced singing phenomenon, Hayley Westenra is back with a magical collection of Christmas songs for the entire family to enjoy. She was heralded by PARADE Magazine as a “phenom” and the Boston Globe as a “voice to reckon with,” both good reasons for new and old fans alike to indulge in this holiday delight. Winter Magic will be in stores November 23rd on Decca.
In 2003, Hayley made chart history with her first CD Pure by becoming the fastest-selling debut classical artist in U.K. history. Through the years Hayley has released 6 albums internationally and has been featured on many more including West Side Story as Maria and Celtic Woman: A New Journey. She has charmed audiences around the globe and performed for Her Majesty the Queen of England, President Bush and Tony Blair, Prince Charles, Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice, as well having sung in some of the most prestigious halls in the world including Carnegie Hall, The Sydney Opera House, Wembley Arena and Royal Albert Hall. On August 29, 2009, Westenra led the traditional singing of “Abide With Me” at the Rugby League Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
Now with Winter Magic, Hayley combines some of the most loved and familiar seasonal carols such as “Silent Night” and “Coventry Carol” with popular Christmas songs “Little Drummer Boy” and “Sleigh Ride”, as well as tracks she wrote herself (“Peace Shall Come”, “All With You” and “Christmas Morning”). The variety of the song choices perfectly showcases the versatility of her angelic voice and her ability to not only perform in a beautiful, classical way (“Corpus Christi Carol”) but also in a considerably more ‘pop’ style (“Peace Shall Come”). Of recording a holiday album, Hayley comments; “A Christmas album has been a goal of mine for a long time. There is something magical about the music and the time of year when the days grow short and the festive spirit starts to captivate us.”
True to form, Hayley has once again produced an irresistible record which is guaranteed to make everyone’s Christmas more special. 10/29/2009
